4 Tips For Choosing a Bathroom Vanity

A bathroom vanity, if installed correctly, can be a lovely focal point in your bathroom. Installing the right vanity for your bathroom is quite simple. Here are a few steps to guide you through the process:

Determine how much space you have

Measure the available area.
When it comes to the width and depth of your bathroom, you may be limited space-wise; however, you can choose the height, taking into consideration what you want to place above the vanity (i.e. medicine cabinet/ mirror).

Make sure that the depth of the vanity does not obstruct any entrances, shower doors or other storage units. A smaller bathroom may benefit more from a vanity with less depth.

Determine how you want to mount the vanity

·         Mount on the wall: You can float the vanity on the wall. This creates space underneath the vanity, which is ideal for small bathrooms.

·         Mount in the corner: Mounting your vanity in a corner will save space.

·         Free standing: This is the most common mounting option as it offers maximum storage space.

Determine what type of basin you want

You may opt for a single or double basin vanity, depending on surface space and personal preference.
Pick a basin (or basins) that suits the overall design of your bathroom. There are various options to choose available:

·         Undermount: This type of basin has no exposed edges and is, therefore, easy to clean. If you choose this option, opt for a surfacing option such as Formica Laminate.
·         Drop-in: This type of basin is mounted onto an opening in the counter, with the edges resting on it.
·         On top: The basin is placed on top of the vanity surface. No Undermount installation is needed.

Determine how you want to customise your vanity

Your bathroom vanity should suit your bathroom design. You can choose from a variety of materials, such as wood, stone, granite, glass, etc. If you, however, want the look of an expensive material without having to fork out too much money, opt for laminate surfacing options that mimic the appearance of other expensive materials while still offering durability.

You may also want to consider adding accessories such as faucets and drawer/ cabinet handles as well as soap dishes, toothbrush holders, towel hangers, medicine cabinets and mirrors that match the rest of your bathroom.
