Going Green in your Kitchen: 5 Ways

formica suppliers
Protecting the environment through sustainable woodworking is a great way to do your part for future generations. However, responsible living doesn’t have to end at recycling. There are many ways in which you can protect the environment simply by making small changes in your kitchen.

Here’s how:

1.     Out with the old, in with the Formica:
Formica is a versatile surface material, used in kitchens as:
·         Door and drawer frontals
·         Cupboard carcassing
·         Shelving
·         Panelling
·         Worktops

When replacing old outdated cupboards and worktops, consider giving them to someone who may need it more than you, instead of dumping them. At least that way you’re not only helping the environment but you’re helping someone in need.

2.     Conserve important energy:
When using appliances such as the fridge or stove, ensure to maximise their potential by using a pot that fits the stove tops or closing the fridge door after taking something out to avoid wasted energy.

3.     Clean with natural products:
For an all-purpose cleaner, you can use ½ a cup vinegar and ¼ cup baking soda mixed with 2 litres of water – instead of using harsh cleaning agents. Avoid using harsh cleaning sponges which may damage your countertops or drawer frontals.

4.     Implement shades of green:
Going green can also mean to add a little bit of colour to your kitchen. Formica high-pressure laminate (HPL) is resistant to heat, moisture, wear and tear, and it is easy to clean. Formica comes in a wide variety of colours to brighten up your kitchen.

5.     Wash dishes as you go:
Not only will you save anyone having to stand and wash a sink full of dishes, but you’ll be saving water – especially if you choose not to use a dishwasher. As difficult as it sometimes may be, it’s much easier just to wash your dishes as you use them.

The goal of going green is to extend the life of your kitchen and preserve an environment that requires a little bit more attention than we’ve been giving it. Become a responsible homeowner by choosing to join the movement.
